Matty Healy revealed The 1975 will be taking a break following their current tour.
The “Somebody Else” singer delivered the news to the crowd during the band’s concert in Sacramento, Calif., on Tuesday.
“After this tour, we will be going on an indefinite hiatus of shows, so it’s wonderful to have you guys with us tonight,” he said, per a fan video posted to Twitter.
Healy, 34, also gushed over the thrill of performing live for fans.
“We always love … playing for you guys whenever we have the chance. It’s wonderful you’re all here.”
The announcement came as the “controversial” musician and his bandmates kicked off the North American leg of their Still … At Their Very Best Tour.
Healy’s revelation came as a shock to fans who shared their disappointment on social media.

“Oh god I just felt my heart shatter,” one person wrote on Twitter.
“The 1975 going on a break is the worst news I’ve ever received,” another chimed in.
“Please say sike,” a third added.
However, the band’s manager, Jamie Oborne, had previously teased the hiatus while promoting their European concert dates in August.
“The final The 1975 dates of this era and for quite a while go on sale next week. Xx,” Oborne wrote on Instagram at the time.
The 1975 will wrap up the North American leg of their tour in Seattle on Nov. 15. The group will then move on to the UK in February, before officially bowing out in North Holland on March 24.
Healy’s career update comes after his split from Taylor Swift back in June.
He had and the pop star had a month-long summer fling during which they were seen kissing in New York City and leaving Swift’s Eras Tour stop in Nashville, Tenn., together.
After the pair called it quits, a source told Page Six that the “Bad Blood” singer simply needed to “let off some steam” with Healy following her “stifling” previous relationship with Joe Alwyn.
Swift, 33, has since sparked a romantic connection with Kansas City Chiefs tight end Travis Kelce.
Meanwhile, The 1975 frontman was spotted locking lips with influencer Gabbriette Bechtel in NYC earlier this month.
The two were photographed holding hands and passionately making out during a stroll around the city.
